The Burg is one of the landmarks of the town of Zug. It was the medieval seat of the nobility of the time and their deputies, the Lenzburgs, Kyburgs and Habsburgs. After Zug entered the Confederation in 1352, the Burg fell into private hands and for centuries thereafter served as a prestigious residence for important Zug families. Since the extensive restoration work carried out from 1979 to 1982, the Burg has been the cultural-history Museum for Zug town and canton.
