The Museum’s organising body is the Foundation of the Museum in the Burg Zug. It is a foundation under public law whose purpose is to maintain a museum in the Burg property belonging to Canton Zug and thereby to facilitate insight into all periods of Zug’s history.
The Foundation was established in 1975 by the authorities of Canton Zug and Zug Town; the Civic Community of Zug Town and the Corporation of Zug. Since that time the regular support received from the eleven municipalities in Canton Zug has underlined the regional recognition accorded to the Museum.
The Foundation is financed by contributions scaled to the financial strength of the authorities concerned, by voluntary annual subscriptions from the municipalities as well as by donations from sponsors and patrons.
The executive committee is responsible for the strategic management of the Museum.
The committee administers the Foundation’s finances and represents the Foundation externally. The six members of the executive committee are elected equally by the cantonal and municipal executives, who ensure that the Civic Community of Zug and the Zug Corporation are permanently represented and that the municipalities are fairly represented. The presidency is decided by parliament.
A performance agreement exists between the Foundation of the Museum Burg Zug and both Canton Zug and Zug Town with regard to the mission of the Museum and the basic principles of management of the Museum. One important aspect of the agreement is that the Burg Zug must be run as an active and public-oriented museum.

Mission Statement
The Burg Zug is a landmark of Zug town with a picturesque exterior and an atmospheric interior. It houses a small but excellent museum, which is administered by the Foundation Museum in the Burg Zug, supported by Zug town and canton, and the municipalities.
The Museum promotes the education policy of Canton Zug and helps to reinforce the identity of Canton Zug. The Museum’s main competence is to collect, preserve and document the material and immaterial cultural heritage from Canton Zug from the Middle Ages to the present day. Its task is to communicate the past dynamically for the better understanding of the present, and so contribute towards shaping the future.
The Museum is open to all sections of society and all age groups.
The Museum carries out its duties with professionalism. The team works critically and creatively, with dedication and enthusiasm. Respect for the subject matter, the visiting public and each member of the team is paramount.
The Burg is a welcoming venue offering much to experience: visitors are invited to relax and immerse themselves into other times.
