Zug Castle

The funding body of the museum is the "Zug Castle Museum Foundation". It is a foundation under public law with the purpose of running a museum in the castle buildings owned by Canton Zug, thus providing an insight into all periods of Zug history and culture.

The Foundation was established in 1975 by the Canton and City of Zug, the Burgher Commune of Zug and Zug Cooperation. A subsequent agreement with the eleven municipalities that make up Canton Zug to provide regular funding highlights the museum's regional integration.

The Foundation receives statutory contributions according to the financial ability of the individual entities, voluntary annual contributions from the municipal authorities and other contributions by sponsors and benefactors.

The Foundation board is responsible for the strategic running of the museum. It administers the funds and represents the Foundation externally. The six members of the board are elected by the executive authorities of the city and canton on a basis of parity. The Burgher Commune and Zug Corporation are always represented while the municipalities are represented alternately. The president of the Foundation is selected by the Government Council.
