Spindle-back chair

Chair with a five-spindle back and four rounded wooden legs. The seat has 13 slotted screws on its underside (for attaching the back and the four wooden legs). The underside of the seat bears the company logo and quality seal of the Victoria Werke AG in Baar. The seal consists of the Victoria ladybird logo and the inscription “Victoria-Möbel / formschöne Schweizer Qualität [Victoria furniture / shapely Swiss quality] / le beau meuble suisse de qualité 6812”.

The Victoria ladybird logo is a stylised depiction of a ladybird beetle with distinct geometric shapes (a round body with two black dots, a black vertical line and a black section in the shape of a segment of a circle at the top, as well as two black squares representing the antennae). Created by the Baar graphic designer and artist Elso Schiavo (born in 1934), it was used from 1957/58 to 1980. Before that, from 1939 to 1956/57, a more naturalistic depiction of a ladybird was used.
