81 tin soldiers in their original cardboard box

Set of 81 tin soldiers. They are almost two-dimensional and are known as “flats”.

Repurposed square box made by the company Hoffmann’s Stärkefabrik (1850–1990. Producers of clothing and food starch, mainly for the chemical and food industries) consisting of a base and a lid. The front of the lid has an inscription “* Swiss Infantry / On the march. / Attacking with bayonets. / In Battle / Sharpshooters [illegible] / From the 1860s from cousin [or doctor?] / Pewterer Keiser”.

The Zug pewterer Beat Jakob Josef Anton Keiser (08/03/1821–23/05/1897) lived at 2 Altstadt in Zug. He learnt his craft from his father, Joachim Leonz Michael Joseph Keiser (08/01/1775–13/04/1853), who, in addition to a pewterer’s shop in the historical centre of Zug also had a workshop in Chur. Beat Jakob Josef Anton Keiser spent a long time abroad and upon his return worked as an administrative clerk for Zug Corporation, having retired from his profession as a pewterer.
